Vincenzo Pietropaolo vists Western University

When Vincenzo Pietropaolo was 12 years old, he and his family emigrated from Italy to Canada. Being an immigrant boy, Pietropaolo used photography as a coping mechanism; for him, “photography provided a sense of identity.” Known for his social commentary, Pietropaolo was able to access another world through his photos. In one of his photo series, Not Paved by Gold, he was able to capture the disillusion Italian immigrants faced when they came to Canada; many were expecting better employment opportunities than available.

On March 11, 2014, this award-winning photographer, spoke with the students and faculty of Western University. Thank you Vincenzo Pietropaolo for sharing the truth captured in many of your photographs.

Here is a short scene from his presentation.
